FW-190A

(Wigbert Granewski, Germany)

My FW 190 is painted in the colour scheme of the Africa Corps, which were in service in early 1943. This makes it better visible than the grey colours.

This model flies really excellent, it is very agile, but stable in flight, even when flying upside down. The wide speed range makes it easy to land.

Take off weight is 506 grams, fully equipped with the KA 2026 motor, a 9X4,5 APC propeller and 8X 1400 mAh NiMH Batteries. Power is more than enough to fly almost all aerobatic figures, which are possible with aileron and rudder.

Flight time is 12 minutes.

Changes, I made are mostly to make the appearance more scale like. Only carbon fibre profiles in the ailerons, rudder and elevator give extra stability in flight.

I left the elevator in one piece, as described in the german Forum.

The machine guns were made from aluminium.

I reduced the diameter of the wooden motor mount to match the size of the BMW 801 Radiator wheel, which is simulated by a photograph. Then I cut the EPP back for about 6mm, before I cemented the mount into it.

The cockpit shade is made of paper; instrument panel is a Photograph too. The gunsight is made of Balsa and a piece of plastic.

The exhaust pipes are made of plastic tubes and cut into the EPP. I am using them as exhaust for the motor cooling air.

Under the bottom line, I really love this FW190. I flew it at wind speeds of 4bft, and it behaved perfectly. And the appearance in the air is absolutely great.
